In this episode of Lost, while recovering from his compound leg fracture in Tunisia, John Locke speaks at length with Charles Widmore about the Island and his importance and purpose to the future of the Island. In that scene Widmore tells Locke, "...there is a war coming, John. And if you're not back on the island when that happens, the wrong side is going to win."
This scene is eerily similar to the one depicted in all incarnations of the original Lost Horizon story. Father Perrault (a.k.a. the High Lama) recounts his prediction of a coming war to Conway. Widmore emphasizes the importance of Locke to the future of the Island, the High Lama does the same with Conway and his importance to the future of Shangri-la and the ultimate fate of mankind.
Now we do not know the nature of the war on Lost, but on the surface there is an implication of it's huge global significance, especially when you connect it to the statements made by Alvar Hanso in the Sri Lanka Orientation Film available for viewing on Youtube. The same point of global significance to the fate of mankind is just made more obvious in Lost Horizon. Nevertheless, this parallel between the two worlds cannot be denied.
